Cookie policy

One cookie. It remembers which language you read in, and that is the whole of it.

Updated

The short version

This website sets one cookie. It stores the language you picked, so the next page opens in the same one.

There is no analytics cookie, no advertising cookie, and no third-party cookie of any kind. Nothing here counts you, follows you, or tells anybody else you visited.

There is no consent banner either, and the section below explains why that is a consequence rather than an omission.

One more thing your browser keeps

Your language choice is also written to your browser’s local storage, under the key tt-lang. It is not a cookie, so a cookie policy is not strictly obliged to mention it, which is precisely why it is mentioned here.

It does the same job as the cookie and holds the same two letters. It is never sent to a server. It stays until you clear the data this site has stored.

Why there is no consent banner

Consent is required before a site stores something that is not necessary for the service you asked for. Analytics, advertising and profiling all fall on that side of the line.

A language preference does not. You set it by using the picker, it does the one thing you asked it to, and it holds no identifier. Nothing else is stored at all.

So a banner here would ask you to consent to nothing, and would train you to click through the next one that mattered. We would rather publish the table above and let you check it.

What this site does not do

  • No analytics, first-party or third-party. No page-view counting of any kind.
  • No advertising, no retargeting, no conversion pixels.
  • No session recording, no heatmaps, no fingerprinting.
  • No social media buttons, no embedded players, no comment widgets.
  • No content delivery network and no external fonts. Every asset is served from this site, so no third party ever sees a request from your browser.

That last point is the one that usually surprises people. A single external font file is enough to hand a third party your address and the page you were reading, which is why this site has none.

Inside the product

Boreon is a different application on a different domain, and this policy does not govern it.

The cookies it sets are the ones a signed-in application cannot work without: they hold your session, carry the step between your password and your authenticator tool, and bind each change you make to the session that made it. None of them is used for analytics or advertising.

They are strictly necessary cookies: a signed-in session cannot work without them. None of them is used for analytics, for advertising, or to follow you between sites. If you are assessing the product and need each name, lifetime and flag, ask at privacy@boreon.com and we will give you the register for the version you are running rather than a list that may have drifted from it.

How to control it

Change your language with the picker in the header, or in the menu on a phone, and the stored value changes with it.

Clear the data this site has stored, or block cookies for this domain, and both the cookie and the local storage entry go. Nothing breaks. The site falls back to the language your browser asks for, and then to English.

Your browser can also be set to refuse cookies before they are written. This site works either way.

Changes and contact

If this site ever sets another cookie, this page changes first and the date at the top changes with it. If a future cookie is not strictly necessary, it will ask you before it is set.
